The Inn of the Broken Blade

The Inn of the Broken Blade

The Inn of the Broken Blade is one of Eastguard’s oldest and most welcoming landmarks. Built in a sprawling multi-wing layout overlooking a quiet bend of the river, the inn stretches across several connected sections and gabled roofs. A covered wooden bridge on the north side crosses the water into the cemetery, giving the whole property a strangely peaceful, historic charm.

Travelers heading to or from the gates often make this their first real stop once they reach Main Street. Locals simply call it “The Blade.” It is known for hearty food, spacious taproom gatherings, private rooms, and the unmistakable sound of community that fills its hallways.

The inn is a large, timber-framed structure with cream-colored walls, heavy wooden beams, and overlapping slate roofs. Multiple wings extend at different angles, forming a broad U-shaped layout around a small inner courtyard. Warm golden light spills from tall mullioned windows at nearly all hours.

The west-facing front entrance sits beneath a deep stone archway. Inside, the main taproom opens wide: hand-hewn beams, a long polished bar, sturdy tables, and a bustle that never turns unruly. The smell of roasted meats, spiced stews, and fresh bread drifts through the building. A wide staircase on the first floor leads to the guest suites above, though a spiral staircase in the northeast corner carries most guests to the upper levels.

Stepping through the front door, the taproom immediately opens into a broad, warm space filled with lanternlight and the scent of cooked meals. Tables sit beneath heavy wooden rafters, and the bar along the east wall gleams from decades of polish. Even at its busiest, the room stays manageable. Teti runs the place with confidence, and Luino’s quiet presence keeps tempers cool.

Two private meeting rooms occupy the northwest and southwest corners, each furnished with a long table, several chairs, and shuttered windows. They serve merchants, travelers needing privacy, and locals who prefer quieter meals. To the east, a checkerboard floor marks the kitchen wing, where pots clatter and the air warms with fresh bread and stew. Outside the north door, the covered wooden bridge crosses the river and leads straight to the cemetery.

The second floor wraps around a large open atrium that looks down into the taproom. Iron railings line the walkway, giving a clear view of the common room below. Guest rooms occupy the eastern and northern wings, each furnished with sturdy beds, desks, storage chests, and shuttered windows. Three southern rooms overlook Main Street, catching early light and the sound of occasional foot traffic.

The third floor sits beneath the inn’s steep slate rooftops. Low ceilings slope at the edges, and a long hall connects a series of quiet guest rooms. Sounds echo strangely here beneath the angled roof. The southwestern-most room, marked as Room 10, stays locked at all times. Guests rarely ask about it twice. Teti’s expression tends to shut down curiosity quickly.

This is a place where everyone seems to breathe easier. The staff move with practiced efficiency, laughter rolls lightly through the rafters, and the hearth never fully cools. The inn’s long history of sheltering adventurers has given it an unspoken reputation for safety and trust.
