Traveling Sales “Strategist” from Palanthas

Entry

A man too polished for the road and too smooth for anyone’s comfort, Jon Hammerson drifts from town to town carrying a glossy leather briefcase no one has ever seen him open. He claims to specialize in “brand elevation for small businesses,” a phrase that immediately made Marteph squint but somehow still cost him several gold to hear more about.

Hammerson stayed at the Snoring Warrior for three nights. In that short time he managed to convince Marteph that phrases like “establishing a brand” and “protecting the marketing plan” were essential parts of tavernkeeping. No one in Eastguard understands what those words mean, but Marteph uses them now like holy scripture.

When Marteph bellows that his brew is “the best ale in Eastguard,” Helia always fires back with, “It is the only ale in Eastguard!” which is Hammerson’s fault too. He told Marteph that “competitive positioning” required a catchy slogan, and Marteph took that lesson to heart.

Hammerson left Eastguard with his purse full and his smile unshaken, and to this day no one can quite explain what service he performed. But the town remembers him. Mostly because they still cannot figure out how a man that handsome managed to sell absolutely nothing.
