Dragon Meat and Masquerades

Date: July 22, 2026

Summary

Fresh off killing an adolescent blue dragon and its Blue Dragon Army handlers, the party weighed their options — go back to the camp, fake another attack, or head to town — and settled on warning Palanthas and getting some rest. Before leaving, Bimmi butchered the dragon for meat, rib bones, and teeth, while Jack carefully harvested and wrapped its heart for later.

Taking the fast route by small boat into the Public Harbor, the party paid the docking fee and went looking for guards to warn. Captured army gear got them taken seriously, and they reported the camp to the north, its size, and its commander — Katerina Voss — to a guard officer who promised to pass it along, though he had no transport to offer back toward Eastguard. A trip to the University came up empty too; the professor they needed was away for the holiday.

Back at the inn, Bimmi cooked up the fresh dragon meat — flavorful, oddly icy-hot, with a metallic tingle that lingered on the tongue. Afterward, Sir Jangle turned the tavern into his own personal stage, lifting loaded tables and magically making a cook strut around like a chicken, while Jack used the crowd’s distraction to lighten several pockets. Bimmi eventually carried Sir Jangle up to bed once the show ran long.

Later, Jack slipped into the city’s underworld, trading coded talk about “clear skies” and a “shepherd” for a meeting with local thieves. He warned them about the army camp, proved it with a dragon scale, and traded a stolen ring for a disguise kit — though he left annoyed that nobody recognized his guild leader’s name. A tail lost him the slip when Jack ducked into an alley and taunted him from the shadows. Back at the inn, he ran into Lady Primrose, an elderly noblewoman fretting over thieves at her family’s upcoming masquerade ball. Jack signed the party on as her bodyguards for 500 gold each, took directions to her manor, and left the disguise kit under Sir Jangle’s door with an IOU note.

The next morning, the bodyguard job was an easy sell over breakfast. While the party waited for evening, Bimmi and Sir Jangle found a merchant, Don John, in the Magic District who could work dragon bone into something magical — Bimmi commissioned a piece for Titus, and Jack looked into a dragon-bone bow of his own (steep price, weeks of work). Bimmi also planned a dragon-meat menu for the evening.

At sunset, the party arrived at Lady Primrose’s gothic manor, where the staff were already expecting them. Jack introduced Bimmi as a hired cook, who was shown straight to the kitchen, while Lady Primrose greeted the rest of the group and insisted they couldn’t attend in travel clothes — a room of fine attire, including some of her late husband’s things that happened to fit Bimmi, took care of that. The party dressed, masked up, and the session ended right at the doorstep of the ball.

Short

The party warns Palanthas about the Blue Dragon Army, spends a night on strange dragon meat and light-fingered mischief, and lands a well-paid bodyguard job for an elderly noblewoman’s masquerade ball. The session ends right as they get dressed for it.

Classic

Last time, the party stopped an army from claiming a young dragon and walked away richer for it. This time, that dragon became dinner, a warning to the city, and — through a chain of coincidences involving a tavern performance, some light theft, and a chat with the local underworld — a bodyguard contract for a masquerade ball none of them saw coming.

Snarky

Nothing says “responsible adventurers” quite like eating the dragon you just killed, staging an impromptu tavern circus as cover for a pickpocketing spree, and then somehow landing a job protecting a noblewoman’s jewelry at a party you weren’t invited to an hour earlier. Efficient use of a day off, honestly.

Memorable Moments

Sir Jangle turns a tavern into his own personal stage, lifting tables and making a cook dance like a chicken, while Jack quietly robs the distracted crowd blind.

Division of labor: one entertains, one steals. Perfectly balanced.

Jack talks his way into a 500-gold-a-head bodyguard job in the span of one late-night conversation at the bar.

Walked in a stranger. Walked out employed.
