Beneath the Wild Waves

Date: May 20, 2026 — Session 8

Summary

“Dinner is served.” The aquatic creatures had announced their intentions. The party had no interest in being the meal.

The Ruined Bedchamber of Itzan Klertal was flooded to the ceiling, and the floor pulsed with radiant bubbles — wild magic, erratic and alive. Jack Dagger opened combat immediately, putting an arrow into the nearest creature before it could close the distance. Bimmie swam into the gap between them and summoned his angelic Spirit Guardians, rings of spectral light that swept through both creatures and left him untouched. One of the creatures answered with a psychic screech that punched through the water and stopped Jack Dagger cold — stunned, motionless, sinking slightly. The second creature closed on Bimmie and bit down. Brynnan responded with lightning.

Sir Jangle Merrigold jumped in from the doorway and began swimming toward the fight, but the water slowed him and he didn’t arrive in time for the worst of it. Bimmie kept pressing. One creature fell. The other, bleeding and cornered, was asked to surrender.

It refused.

“There is nowhere for me to run. The only direction away from you leads to something worse.”

It attacked again. Titus burned it. Brynnan finished it.

The moment the last creature died, the wild magic bubbling stopped. The chamber went quiet. The party searched the bodies and found three things: two unusual steel coins stamped with a crowned face on one side and a temple on the other — cold to the touch, resistant to rust, not resembling any common currency — a cluster of silver coins fused together by salt corrosion, and a necklace of shark teeth and copper pieces tied with a tendon-like cord, tiny symbols scratched into the largest tooth with obsessive care.

The coins went into pockets. The questions went unanswered. Something worse lay deeper in the ruins.

Short

A flooded chamber, wild magic bubbling from the floor, and two aquatic creatures who announced they were going to eat the party. They did not. Bimmie’s Spirit Guardians, Brynnan’s lightning, and Titus’s fire saw to that. The second creature, offered surrender, chose to die instead — and its last words pointed toward something worse waiting deeper in the dark. The loot was strange: two steel coins nobody recognised and a shark-tooth necklace etched with careful symbols.

Classic

Last we left off, Bimmie and Titus were standing in the flooded halls of Itzan Klertal and two aquatic shapes had just told them, telepathically, that dinner was served. This session answered the question of who was eating whom. The answer was: the party, but it cost them. Jack Dagger spent most of the fight stunned at the bottom of a flooded room. Sir Jangle Merrigold swam heroically toward the battle and arrived after it ended. And the creature that refused to surrender left them with a line that’s still sitting heavy — something worse — and three pieces of strange loot that don’t belong to any recognisable history.

Snarky

Two fish-people announced dinner, got Spirit Guardians’d, lightning’d, and fire’d for their trouble, and the last one used its dying breath to hint that whatever is further inside the ruin is scarier than the party. Bold of it, given the circumstances. Jack Dagger was unconscious for most of the fight. Sir Jangle Merrigold swam toward the action in slow motion and arrived to find it over. The loot was three inexplicable items, at least one of which might be cursed. Probably fine.

Limerick

The creatures declared it was time to dine, And Jack got stunned straight down the line. But Bimmie’s bright rings Radiant damage brings, And Brynnan’s lightning finished just fine!

The last one refused, said it wouldn’t run far, “What waits in the dark would leave much worse scar.” Then Titus sent fire, Raised the stakes higher — Brynnan closed it out. That’s par for the par.

Memorable Moments

The surviving creature refuses to surrender and explains why.

Offered a way out, it chose to stay and fight — not from pride, but because whatever lies deeper in the ruins frightened it more than death.

“There is nowhere for me to run. The only direction away from you leads to something worse. I will never surrender.”

Bimmie wades between two aquatic predators, summons his Spirit Guardians, and invites them both to try.

“Hey, you fishy little bastards — come and get me!”

Twenty-one points of radiant damage. They came and got him. It did not go well for them.

The wild magic stops the moment the last creature dies.

The chamber, which had been pulsing with erratic radiant light since the party arrived, went completely still. Whatever fed those bubbles was tied to the things that had been living here.

NPCs

The Aquatic Creatures

Two humanoid creatures from the deeper parts of Itzan Klertal, capable of telepathy and psychic attacks. One was killed in the opening exchange. The second, offered a chance to live, chose to die rather than face whatever waits in the ruins beyond them. Their loot suggests they came from somewhere with its own currency, its own symbols, and its own history.

Locations

Itzan Klertal — Ruined Bedchamber

A flooded chamber deep within the sunken city. The floor pulsed with wild magic — radiant bubbles rising and falling in an erratic rhythm — until the creatures that lived here died. Whatever they were doing in this room, it stopped with them.

Items

Two Unusual Steel Coins

Dark grey steel, cold to the touch, resistant to rust. One face shows a crowned woman with coral in her hair. The reverse shows a spiral wave surrounding a seven-pointed star. Not common currency. Worth investigating.

Cluster of Fused Silver Coins

Dozens of silver pieces corroded together into a single jagged lump. The individual edges still catch light beneath the salt crust. Worth roughly 82 silver pieces, if someone has the patience to separate them.

Shark-Tooth Necklace

A cord of gut threaded with polished shark teeth, copper hooks, and fragments of blue shell. Symbols scratched into the largest tooth with obsessive precision. Origin unknown.
