Watchtower Briar Camp

An abandoned coastal watchtower near Saltmere, used as a base of operations by the Black Briar Company.

The watchtower was built long ago to warn ships of reefs along the coastline. By the time the Black Briar Company arrived in the region, it had been abandoned for years — walls intact, roof partially collapsed, surrounded by overgrown scrub. It made a practical base: defensible, close to the village, and out of sight from the docks.

The Briars fortified the ground floor, posted sentries on the upper level, and used the tower as their staging point while extorting tribute from Saltmere.

What the Party Found

The party approached the tower after learning its location from Brenn Nett, who had followed the mercenaries there in secret. They assaulted the camp, cleared the Black Briar Company occupants, and ended the threat to Saltmere.

Varric Morn was encountered here and dealt with during the confrontation.

  • The tower sits roughly half a mile inland along the coastal road from Saltmere.

  • After the party cleared it, the Briars’ hold on Saltmere collapsed.

Rumors

  • The tower’s original builders used it to signal ships during storms. Some of the old signal equipment is still present.
  • The Black Briar Company left records at the camp. Whether anyone recovered them is unclear.
