The Murmur Codex

Field Reference of the Silent Mask

The Murmur is the spoken cant of the Silent Mask.

It allows members to pass messages in public without revealing their meaning. To outsiders, Murmur should sound like ordinary conversation.

A Mask hides meaning in plain sight.

Only certain words carry meaning. Everything else in the sentence is noise.

A conversation may include:

  • small talk
  • jokes
  • exaggeration
  • irrelevant details

These exist only to hide the message.

A Mask listens only for the words of the Murmur. Everything else is wind.

Weather Triggers (Start of Murmur)

Weather words signal the beginning of a coded message.

Only two phrases may begin a Murmur communique.

If neither phrase appears, ignore the conversation.
